Winterfell’s harvest feast fills the hall properly for once, and among the guests come two children out of the crannogs — Meera and Jojen Reed of Greywater Watch, sworn by the old bond between their houses to answer a Stark’s call. They are strange even by Bran’s generous standards: Jojen speaks of green dreams with the flat certainty of someone who has never once been wrong, and Bran, who has been having wolf-dreams he can’t explain, recognizes a kindred oddity immediately.
The Reeds’ arrival is the chapter’s real event — not the feast, which is mostly relief and pageantry, but the quiet promise that someone has finally come who might explain what’s happening to Bran rather than simply worrying about it. Jojen’s greensight gives Bran’s private, frightening gift a vocabulary for the first time, and the crannogmen’s old oath to the Starks becomes, by the book’s end, one of the more consequential debts called in during the whole war.
