At the Whispers on Crackclaw Point, Nimble Dick's road ends among the Brave Companions' leavings; Brienne kills three men and is sick after.

The chapter retold

Brienne's party reaches the Whispers on Crackclaw Point, following Nimble Dick's lead ÔÇö and finds only the aftermath of the Brave Companions, the mercenary company known as the Bloody Mummers, who have already been through and left ruin behind them. In the fighting that follows, Brienne kills three men, including the fool called Shagwell, one of the Mummers' most sadistic members, dispatched without ceremony or humor despite his name. Afterward she is violently, physically sick ÔÇö not from fear, but from the plain animal weight of having killed people, however much they deserved it.

This chapter is important less for the plot advance ÔÇö Nimble Dick's lead dries up, another dead end in the search for Sansa ÔÇö than for what it says about Brienne as a fighter: unlike the swaggering killers she keeps encountering, violence costs her something every time, and the book takes care to show the bill coming due immediately, in her own body, rather than letting a kill scene pass as simple triumph. It's a deliberate contrast with how combat gets glamorized elsewhere in the story, and it keeps Brienne's moral seriousness ÔÇö one of her defining traits ÔÇö visibly intact even as her body count climbs.
