On the Shield Islands, newly crowned Euron Greyjoy hands out spoils and lordships to his favored captains with the casual generosity of a man who has just won everything he wanted, taking other men's holdings by conquest and reassigning them like party favors. Victarion, his brother and rival at the kingsmoot, is given a mission dressed as an honor and shaped like exile: command of the Iron Fleet, and an errand to the very edge of the known world ÔÇö sail east, find Daenerys Targaryen, and bring the dragon queen home as Euron's bride, wielding Euron's own gifted horn to bind her dragons along the way.
The chapter reveals the shape of Euron's real ambition ÔÇö not merely ruling the Iron Islands but reaching for the entire world's board, using his own brother as an unwitting pawn sent halfway across the earth. Victarion, simple and dutiful, accepts the mission at face value, unaware ÔÇö as the reader increasingly is not ÔÇö that Euron's gifts (the horn, the mission, even his own new wife given to him before departure) come with strings his straightforward mind is not equipped to see.
