A Feast for Crows ÔÇö Cersei IX

Osney confesses to the wrong things too well: the High Sparrow has him scourged raw ÔÇö and what he screams under the lash sends the Faith's fingers closing on Cersei herself.

The chapter retold

Osney Kettleblack's false confession goes wrong in the worst possible direction: he confesses to too much, too convincingly, and the High Sparrow ÔÇö now suspicious rather than satisfied ÔÇö has him scourged to extract the truth beneath the lie. Under the lash, what Osney actually screams is not what Cersei scripted for him; it sends the Faith's attention swinging directly toward the queen herself, the very net she built to catch Margaery beginning to close around its own architect.

This is the chapter where the trap Cersei spent so many pages congratulating herself on fully reveals its true design: not a weapon she controls, but a machine that runs on evidence and confession regardless of whose interests that evidence serves. Osney's torture-extracted testimony is the first concrete thread connecting Cersei to sins of her own ÔÇö adultery, conspiracy, the paternity of her children by extension ÔÇö and the High Sparrow, having been handed genuine grounds for suspicion, is not the kind of instrument that stops once it starts moving.
