The Prince of Winterfell sits below the salt at Ramsay's wedding feast; Abel the bard and his washerwomen keep asking Theon how the castle's walls are watched.

The chapter retold

Theon ÔÇö the narration finally restoring his name in the chapter heading, though not yet in his own head ÔÇö sits below the salt at RamsayÔÇÖs wedding feast, present but unseated, watching a celebration built on a lie he helped stage. A traveling entertainer called Abel plies the hall with songs while his washerwomen move quietly among the guests, and one of them keeps finding excuses to talk to Theon about the castleÔÇÖs walls, its watches, its weak points ÔÇö questions dressed as gossip that are plainly nothing of the kind.

The chapter plants the rescue plot that will consume the rest of TheonÔÇÖs arc without yet naming its shape: AbelÔÇÖs troupe is working an angle inside RamsayÔÇÖs own wedding, and Theon ÔÇö broken, terrified, still more Reek than not ÔÇö is the one man in the castle who could actually answer their questions usefully, if he can remember how to be dangerous instead of obedient. It is the first flicker, faint and unreliable, of Theon Greyjoy stirring back to life inside what Ramsay built.
