S6┬ÀE4 ÔÇö Book of the Stranger
The hour retold
The seasonÔÇÖs first genuine reunion arrives without fanfare: Sansa Stark reaches Castle Black and finds her half-brother alive against every reasonable expectation, the first time two Stark children have stood in the same room since Winterfell burned. What follows is not a triumphant homecoming so much as two survivors comparing wounds ÔÇö Sansa is done running, Jon is tired of fighting other peopleÔÇÖs wars, and RamsayÔÇÖs letter, demanding her return and threatening RickonÔÇÖs life in the same breath, is what finally moves Jon from reluctance to resolve. Littlefinger, meanwhile, slides back into the Vale unbothered by any of it and aims Robin ArrynÔÇÖs knights north, setting up an intervention no one at Castle Black knows is coming.
In Vaes Dothrak, Daenerys turns a death sentence into a coronation. Sentenced to the temple of the dosh khaleen for the crime of widowhood, she instead locks the khals in with the burning braziers and walks out of the flames unburnt for the second time in her life, and the surviving Dothraki ÔÇö faced with a choice between a dead god and a living one ÔÇö kneel by morning. It is the showÔÇÖs cleanest demonstration of how Daenerys actually accumulates power: not by asking, but by making refusal look like a worse bet than surrender. On Pyke, Theon returns from his long ordeal not to reclaim a crown of his own but to kneel for his sisterÔÇÖs, the seasonÔÇÖs quietest and most complete character reversal, finally putting someone elseÔÇÖs survival ahead of his own ambition.
