S7┬ÀE3 ÔÇö The Queen's Justice
The hour retold
Ice finally meets fire in a room at Dragonstone, and the meeting is a stalemate dressed up as diplomacy: Jon Snow will not bend the knee to a queen he has just met, no matter how good her claim or how badly the North needs her dragons, and Daenerys will not simply hand a stranger the one thing every claimant in Westeros has fought and died for. He leaves with dragonglass and nothing resolved, which the show treats as its own kind of progress ÔÇö two people learning to trust each other in the only currency either has to spare. In KingÔÇÖs Landing, Euron parades Ellaria and Tyene Sand through the streets as trophies, and Cersei repays the Sand SnakesÔÇÖ murder of Myrcella with a slow, exact cruelty of her own devising, poisoning Tyene with the same kiss that killed her daughter while forcing Ellaria to watch, chained, unable to look away.
The seasonÔÇÖs military optimism curdles fast: the Unsullied take Casterly Rock only to find it strategically worthless, the Lannister army long since marched elsewhere, and while Grey WormÔÇÖs men celebrate an empty victory, Jaime LannisterÔÇÖs forces are busy taking Highgarden, the Tyrell breadbasket Dany actually needed. Olenna Tyrell, cornered and doomed either way, drinks JaimeÔÇÖs offer of a painless poison and spends her very last breath handing him one more piece of information than he wanted ÔÇö the confession that she, not Tyrion, murdered Joffrey ÔÇö a final thorn planted with the same dry, unhurried relish she has brought to every scene the show has given her.
