The fuller tale

House Darkwood belongs to the broad company of small landed houses that fill out the Crownlands ÔÇö the knights and petty lords who owe their service straight to whoever holds the throne rather than to some great regional overlord. The chronicles set down little of their deeds beyond their name and their allegiance, but it is exactly such houses, summoned by the hundred, that turn a king's call to arms into an army.
