House Drumm

An old and proud ironborn house of Old Wyk, keepers of the Valyrian sword Red Rain, which they say an ancestor took the honest way ÔÇö by reaving.

The fuller tale

House Drumm holds land on Old Wyk, the holiest of the Iron Islands, and among their treasures is the red-tinged Valyrian blade Red Rain. The Drumms insist it was won the proper ironborn way: taken in battle from an Andal knight by their ancestor Hilmar Drumm, called the Cunning, who is said to have done it while armed with almost nothing ÔÇö a tale told to prove that cleverness beats good steel, and told very often.

The head of the house in the recent tale is old, stubborn Dunstan Drumm, a hard traditionalist who was among the claimants at the kingsmoot on Old Wyk. To the Drumms, a sword taken by reaving is worth more than any bought with gold ÔÇö which is the whole ironborn creed distilled into a single heirloom.
