The hot-tempered lords of the Hellholt on the Brimstone, of whom it is said that half are half-mad, and the other half worse.

The fuller tale

The Ullers hold the Hellholt, a grim seat on the poisoned river Brimstone in the deep Dornish desert, and they have a reputation across the realm for tempers as harsh as their lands. "Half the Ullers are half-mad," runs the saying, "and the other half are worse" ÔÇö the kind of thing a house lives up to whether it wants to or not.

The most notorious Uller of the age is Ellaria Sand, natural daughter of the lord of the Hellholt and paramour of Prince Oberyn Martell. In the books Ellaria is a voice of mercy, begging Dorne not to answer her lover's death with more slaughter; on the screen she becomes the opposite, seizing the venom of the Dornish cause and turning it, disastrously, on the innocent. Either way the Hellholt's blood ran through the heart of Dorne's quarrel with the crown.
