Castle Cerwyn

Half a day's ride from Winterfell, home of the Starks' nearest bannermen.

The fuller tale

Castle Cerwyn sits half a day’s ride south of Winterfell, close enough that its lords have always been the Starks’ nearest neighbors, first dinner guests and first levy on any muster roll. That proximity is the house’s whole fate in the war: when the Boltons take Winterfell, the Cerwyns are the nearest example to be made — a lord flayed alive for refusing to pay his new masters — and the survivors ride with the wolves at the first chance vengeance offers. Small house, short road, long memory.

No death the chronicle records has come to this ground — or none the maesters have set down.
