The fuller tale

Cider Hall stands at the meeting of the Mander and the Cockleswhent amid the orchards that put the apple on the Fossoway banners and the house's name on every cask of good cider in the Reach. The family's great schism is the realm's most cheerful feud: at a famous tourney in the age of the hedge knights, one Fossoway's conduct so disgusted his own cousin that the cousin bit into a green apple, declared it his new arms, and founded a rival branch on the spot ÔÇö and red-apple and green-apple Fossoways have been politely distinguishing themselves from one another ever since. Cider Hall belongs to the red; the green throve on its own lands nearby; and both send their knights to the Reach's wars in numbers, where captains have learned to check which apple before assigning them adjoining tents.
