The fuller tale

Claw Isle sits off Crackclaw Point like a stepping stone to Dragonstone, which is precisely what its lords have always been. The Celtigars carry old Valyrian blood and red crabs on their banners, and for three centuries they made a comfortable career of being the dragon's nearest and most reliable vassals ÔÇö collecting fine Myrish tapestries, a famous axe, and the mild resentment of their Crackclaw neighbors, who consider the Celtigar tax-gathering visits a form of weather. In the war of the five kings the isle follows Dragonstone to Stannis, as it always follows Dragonstone; the books note what that loyalty costs when the Blackwater goes wrong and an old lord must choose between his king across the sea and his own bed at home. He chooses the bed. Stannis's court calls it treason; nearly everyone else calls it being eighty.
