The fuller tale

Deep Den earns its name ÔÇö the Lydden seat is dug into the hills where the goldroad climbs toward the riverlands, a badgerÔÇÖs stronghold for a house whose white badger banner is the westÔÇÖs driest joke about itself: unglamorous, tenacious, hard to dig out. The goldroad brings the Lyddens their relevance; every army and caravan between Lannisport and KingÔÇÖs Landing passes their door, and the Lyddens, sensibly, have made a specialty of still being there afterward.
