The fuller tale

Elyria keeps to its island in the Gulf of Grief, close enough to the smoking ruin of Valyria that its sailors watch the horizon glow on foul nights, far enough to have outlived the Doom that killed the mainland cities. It is a quiet name on the storyÔÇÖs map ÔÇö a trading city of the old Valyrian fringe, minding its harbors between Tolos and the demon-haunted coast, touched by the tale only as a port of call in the diplomacy swirling around DaenerysÔÇÖs war. Its distinction is simply endurance: when the gods dealt out catastrophe to the FreeholdÔÇÖs daughters, Elyria drew water instead of fire, and an island turned out to be the best inheritance of all.
