Nightsong
The marcher seat of the Carons, lords of the nightingales.
The fuller tale
Nightsong holds a pass through the Dornish Marches for House Caron, whose nightingale banners and title ÔÇö Lords of the Marches ÔÇö announce the family's two inheritances, music and war, in the order the marches permit. Seat of harpers and hard riders both, Nightsong spent centuries as Dorne's first argument and the stormlands' first answer, and its lords grew famous for excelling at everything a marcher must: the sword, the wall, the song after. The tale takes its young lord to Renly's rainbow-cloaked guard and then to the Blackwater, where the house's luck runs out in single combat at the walls ÔÇö and the books hand the ancient seat, with the era's bleak humor, to the minor knight who did the killing, a new-made marcher lord learning that the nightingales come with the mortgage. Dorne, as ever, is watching from the pass.
The fallen of this place ÔÇö if any, they are named here. Spoilers.
