Ny Sar

Ruin of the Rhoynar

The drowned palace-city of Princess Nymeria's people, at the meeting of Rhoyne and Noyne.

The fuller tale

Ny Sar was the Mother City ÔÇö Princess NymeriaÔÇÖs own seat, raised where the Noyne meets the Rhoyne and the joined waters spread so wide they seem a moving sea. The Rhoynar built as their river taught them, in fountains, water gardens and pale domes, and Ny Sar was their marvel: a palace city of song whose princes kept the peace of the upper river for a thousand years. Valyria ended all of it. When the dragons had broken GarinÔÇÖs great host downstream, the river cities emptied before the fire could arrive, and it was from these quays that Nymeria launched the legend ÔÇö ten thousand ships, laden with a civilizationÔÇÖs survivors, down the Mother and across the world to Dorne.

The ruins keep their dignity. TyrionÔÇÖs barge glides through drowned Ny Sar in the books, past broken domes and shattered spires wound in moss and flowers, while the Rhoynish orphans who crew the Shy Maid sing softly to Mother Rhoyne of her lost children. Nothing in the tale mourns Valyria; a great deal of it, quietly, mourns the Rhoyne. Ny Sar is where that grief keeps its architecture.

The fallen of this place ÔÇö if any, they are named here. Spoilers.

No death the chronicle records has come to this ground ÔÇö or none the maesters have set down.
