The fuller tale

Pinkmaiden watches the upper Red Fork for House Piper, whose banner ÔÇö a dancing maiden ÔÇö advertises a family famous for gallantry, music and getting into wars one bridge too far from home. The Pipers ride with Riverrun from the first muster to the last surrender, and the houseÔÇÖs war is the riverlandsÔÇÖ in miniature: a son at every battle, a seat that survives by being too small to be worth razing, and a stubborn streak that outlasts the outcome. The dancing maiden, the riverlands joke goes, has outdanced three royal dynasties so far.
