Seagard

Seat of House Mallister

A fortified port raised to guard the coast against ironborn raiders, seat of House Mallister.

The fuller tale

Seagard was built for one enemy. The Mallisters raised their walled port where Ironman’s Bay bites into the riverlands, and its great bronze bell — the Booming Tower — rings for one reason only: longships sighted. Generations of ironborn raiders have learned the sound, and a Mallister lord once killed a Hoare king under its walls, a debt the eagle banners have never let the krakens forget. In a region famous for indefensibility, Seagard is the riverlands’ one fist.

The war finds the Mallisters where honor usually finds them — early and on the losing side. Seagard’s swords ride with Robb from the first muster, its lord among the most respected men in the young king’s camp, and after the Red Wedding the castle pays the price of good behavior: besieged into surrender and made to bend to the Freys it despises. Of all the riverland seats, Seagard bends with the worst grace, which in the riverlands is a kind of banner in itself.

The fallen of this place — if any, they are named here. Spoilers.

No death the chronicle records has come to this ground — or none the maesters have set down.
