The Isle of Faces

Where the Pact was sworn

The holy island in the Gods Eye where the Pact between the First Men and the children of the forest was sealed beneath the carved weirwoods. No one sails there now; the smallfolk say the green men still keep it, antlered and patient, waiting out the centuries.

The fuller tale

The Isle of Faces is where the worldÔÇÖs longest war ended. On this island in the Gods Eye, the children of the forest and the First Men swore the Pact that closed two thousand years of fighting ÔÇö the children keeping the deep woods, men the rest ÔÇö and every weirwood on the isle was given a carved face to witness the oath. The faces remain; so, the tales insist, do their keepers, the green men, antlered and patient, tending the grove through the millennia while every kingdom founded since has fallen.

No one lands there now. The Andals burned the weirwoods everywhere south of the Neck ÔÇö except here, which no axe or invader ever reached, and the story lets the isle keep its mystery almost completely: named, glimpsed across the water, never entered. It stands in the tale as the sealed room at the center of the map ÔÇö proof that the oldest powers did not vanish, merely stopped answering the door.

The fallen of this place ÔÇö if any, they are named here. Spoilers.

No death the chronicle records has come to this ground ÔÇö or none the maesters have set down.
