The fuller tale

Uplands sits on the high ground above the Honeywine valley with Oldtown's towers in view on a clear day, and House Mullendore has held it in comfortable obscurity for as long as anyone has bothered recording ÔÇö a seat of vineyards, slopes and mild autumns, sworn to the Hightowers and rarely asked for more than its tithes and a respectable showing at tourneys. Its knights ride in the Reach's wars because the Reach's wars are compulsory for gentlemen, and its lords come home when they can; one of them left pieces of himself on the Blackwater, the books note in passing, which is more history than Uplands usually consents to make. The place's true vocation is the view, and it has never apologized for that.
