Wendish Town is a riverside village in the Mallister lands, and its place in the story is to be the evidence. When raiders in unmarked mail put the riverlands to fire and sword at the warÔÇÖs opening, Wendish Town burns with the rest ÔÇö and its name is spoken in the throne room of KingÔÇÖs Landing by survivors seeking the kingÔÇÖs justice, part of the testimony that sends Ned StarkÔÇÖs sentence against Gregor Clegane and lights the fuse of open war. The tale is full of great castles; it needs its Wendish Towns to show what the great castlesÔÇÖ games cost, and who pays.
