The fuller tale

The Brackens’ seat on the Red Fork does the one thing guaranteed to put it at odds with its own liege lord: it looks across the river at Raventree Hall, sees the Blackwoods declaring for Rhaenyra, and declares for Aegon II out of what can only charitably be called principle and less charitably called spite. Stone Hedge fights its own private war inside the larger one — Bracken against Blackwood, green against black, the same feud it would have had anyway, now simply larger.
