House Plumm

An old westerlands house of purple grapes and tall tales. Whether the mocking Ser Maynard is truly one of them ÔÇö or truly anyone at all ÔÇö is a question best not asked at Whitewalls.

The fuller tale

The Plumms are an old westerlands house of no particular current importance, purple grapes on their banner and Come Try Me for words ÔÇö the kind of name a listener half-recognizes without being able to place exactly which cousin belongs to which branch, which turns out to matter more than it should.

Ser Maynard Plumm rides the hedge-knight roads alongside Dunk in the company that gathers toward Whitewalls, mocking and sharp-tongued in a way that reads, on a first pass, as simple hedge-knight color ÔÇö one more landless sword with opinions he is not shy about sharing.

Whether he is actually a Plumm at all is a question the tale itself declines to settle. The suspicion that lingers longest over him ÔÇö voiced by careful readers more than by any character on the page ÔÇö is that 'Ser Maynard Plumm' may be one more disguise worn by Brynden Rivers, watching his own conspiracy unravel from a seat inside it rather than above it. Nothing in the text confirms it outright, which is very much the point.

The page and the screen

Ser Maynard Plumm belongs to The Mystery Knight and has not appeared on screen; the ambiguity surrounding his true identity exists, for now, only for readers of the novella.
