The fuller tale

Brightwater Keep is the Florents' seat, and the fox-eared house has never entirely made peace with the settlement that gave Highgarden to the Tyrells rather than to them — the Florents can trace their own descent from the Gardener kings through the female line, a claim of blood the Tyrells simply cannot match no matter how many roses they grow. That grievance has cooled into a running joke rather than an active feud by Dunk and Egg's era, but it is the sort of joke Brightwater Keep's lords tell often enough that nobody in the Reach has forgotten the punchline is, underneath, entirely sincere.
