The fuller tale

Gulltown is the Vale’s working harbor, a trading city held for the Arryns by House Grafton, whose fortunes rise and fall with shipping tolls and salt-fish prices rather than with the mountain politics that occupy the Eyrie above. It is, in effect, the Vale’s door to the wider realm — the Eyrie handles the Vale’s pride, Gulltown handles its commerce — and in an era when the crown’s peace has made travel and trade unusually safe, that door does brisker business than it has in a generation.
