Rosby is a small, comfortable castle astride the well-traveled road between Duskendale and the capital, the kind of seat whose lords grow modestly rich simply by existing in the path of everyone else’s business without ever generating any drama of their own. In this era it offers the tale nothing more dramatic than good footing for travelers and a name on the map between two more consequential places — a minor holding content, as minor holdings on good roads usually are, to let history happen a day’s ride in either direction.
