The fuller tale

Seagard is a fortified port on the sunset coast, raised generations ago by House Mallister expressly to answer the ironborn’s habit of treating the riverlands’ western shore as an open larder, and the castle has rarely had less use for its walls than it would like in Dunk and Egg’s day. Dagon Greyjoy’s longships are reaving the western seas with a boldness the crown has not yet managed to answer decisively, and Seagard’s watch — old duty, freshly urgent again — has gone from ceremonial to constant, its garrison busier this decade than in the several quiet ones before it.
