Storm's End
A drum-towered castle whose walls have never fallen to storm or siege ÔÇö seat of Ser Lyonel Baratheon, the Laughing Storm, who fights with a roar of mirth.
The fuller tale
StormÔÇÖs End has never fallen to siege or storm in all the centuries since the Storm Kings raised it, and the Baratheons who hold it now ÔÇö cousins of the dragon by Orys BaratheonÔÇÖs marriage into the conquered Durrandon line ÔÇö wear that unbroken record as proudly as any words. In Dunk and EggÔÇÖs age the castleÔÇÖs honor rides at Ashford in the person of Ser Lyonel Baratheon, called the Laughing Storm, a lord who fights tourneys with a booming good humor that unnerves opponents more reliably than a scowl ever could.
The castleÔÇÖs drum-towered walls, curved to break the sea gales that would flatten a straighter fortress, are as much a statement of character as of engineering ÔÇö the Baratheons of this era favor strength worn lightly, the same trait that makes the Laughing Storm memorable on a tourney field crowded with grimmer men. It is a house, and a castle, entirely comfortable with its own legend, which is not nothing in an age when so many older houses are still trying to live down theirs.
