Sunspear’s winding, sand-colored walls house the one triumph of Daeron II’s reign large enough to earn him the epithet the Good outright: a Dornish peace bought not with dragons or armies, both of which had failed his predecessors repeatedly across a century of war, but with two marriages — his own sister wed to the Prince of Dorne, and Daeron himself taking a Dornish princess to wife. House Martell’s seat, joined to the Seven Kingdoms at last by contract rather than conquest, stands in Dunk and Egg’s era as the living proof that Daeron’s patient diplomacy accomplished what generations of his ancestors’ war elephants — sorry, dragons — never could.

Where the season ends pointing: Dunk takes service with no lord at all and turns Thunder's head toward Dorne, with a prince polishing his kettle helm behind him.
