Winterfell

Seat of House Stark

The ancient stronghold of the Kings of Winter, held in this age by Lord Beron Stark — far from the tale's tourneys, busy driving Dagon Greyjoy's reavers from his shores.

The fuller tale

Winterfell in this era belongs to Lord Beron Stark, and the ancient stronghold of the Kings of Winter sits, as it usually does, at a considerable remove from whatever tourney or wedding is currently absorbing the south’s attention — the North’s politics run on a different clock, measured in seasons and reavers rather than in successions and trials of seven. Lord Beron’s more pressing business in these years is driving Dagon Greyjoy’s longships off his own shores, a duty considerably less romantic than anything happening at Ashford Meadow but, to the fisherfolk actually being raided, a great deal more urgent.

In the first season

Far from the season's tourneys, Lord Beron Stark gathers swords to drive Dagon Greyjoy's longships from his shores.

The chronicle here

  • Near Stoney Sept, Dunk and Egg pass gibbets heavy with hanged men — Lord Wyl's brigands, taken by the king's men. The realm is uneasy: Bloodraven hunts traitors, and rumor says the black dragon stirs. Dunk turns their road north, meaning to winter at Winterfell. (TMK 1)
The fallen of this place — if any, they are named here. Spoilers.

No death the chronicle records has come to this ground — or none the maesters have set down.
