CREDITS & LICENSES

Everything on The Known Realm that came from another hand, named and thanked — and a plain statement of what is the operator’s own. Last updated: 29 July 2026.

The underlying works

This site is an unofficial companion to fictional worlds owned by others. A Song of Ice and Fire, the Tales of Dunk and Egg, Fire & Blood, and all their characters, places and stories are © George R.R. Martin. Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are television adaptations © Home Box Office, Inc. / Warner Bros. Discovery. This site is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored, or approved by George R.R. Martin, HBO, or Warner Bros. Discovery. All franchise names are used only to describe what the site is about (nominative use); no ownership of the underlying works is claimed or implied.

The gallery & scene art — original, © the operator

The painted scenes in the gallery, the base map of the Known World, and the weirwood emblem are the original work of Jon-Anders Haukøy, created for this site with the aid of AI image tools (ChatGPT) under the operator’s own direction, selection and editing. They are © Jon-Anders Haukøy, all rights reserved. The same original artwork is used on the daily games’ result screens. These images depict scenes and places from a fictional world owned by others (see above); the artwork itself — the drawing, composition and rendering — is the operator’s and may not be copied, redistributed or reused, commercially or otherwise, without written permission.

The base map

The 5652×3682 base-map artwork is the operator’s own rendered survey of the Known World, created for this site (with the aid of AI image tools, under the operator’s direction and editing) and © Jon-Anders Haukøy. The fictional geography and place names remain the property of their respective creators and are used here for identification in this unofficial companion.

Character portraits & television stills (temporary)

Some character portraits and a few scene images are cropped promotional stills from the HBO television series, © Home Box Office, Inc. / Warner Bros. Discovery. They are shown small, alongside original commentary, solely to identify the characters and moments being discussed, and are not offered for download or reuse. These stills are a temporary placeholder and are being replaced with the operator’s own artwork. Rights holders may request removal of any image at any time via knownrealm@gmail.com, and it will be honored promptly.

Heraldry & house shields

Some house sigils and shields were created by fan artists of the Wiki of Westeros (gameofthrones.fandom.com) and A Wiki of Ice and Fire (awoiaf.westeros.org) communities, and are used under the Creative Commons BY-SA 3.0 license those wikis publish under; our thanks to those artists, and any adaptations of their work shown here are available under the same license. These community-made shields are being replaced, house by house, with the operator’s own original heraldry. The drawn two-color arms and the Dunk & Egg era sigils are already original artwork made for this site.

Map pin glyphs

The castle, city, town, ruin and landmark pin symbols are by Delapouite and the artists of game-icons.net, used under CC BY 3.0.

Typefaces

Cinzel by Natanael Gama and EB Garamond by Georg Duffner & Octavio Pardo, both served under the SIL Open Font License.

Text, data & code — original, © the operator

All chronicle text — every location description, character sketch, episode and chapter summary, quiz question and result — was written originally for this site by Jon-Anders Haukøy and is not copied from any wiki or publication. The maps’ data (coordinates, timelines, allegiances) was compiled by hand, and the site’s code is original work in plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript. All © Jon-Anders Haukøy.

Takedown & corrections

If you are a rights holder and want something credited differently or removed, or if you are a fan artist whose shield we should name individually, write to knownrealm@gmail.com — requests are honored quickly and gladly.
