A Clash of Kings ÔÇö Sansa II
A note leads Sansa to the godswood by night: Ser Dontos, her Florian now, promises to see her home to Winterfell ÔÇö for the Mother's mercy.
The chapter retold
A folded note leads Sansa into the godswood by night, where the man she thinks of as her Florian keeps his promise from chapter three: Ser Dontos, drunk fool turned secret conspirator, swears he will see her safely home to Winterfell. He asks for nothing but her trust and the MotherÔÇÖs mercy, a strange, fumbling little scene that reads more like desperation than competence.
The chapter matters less for what happens in it than for what it sets in motion ÔÇö SansaÔÇÖs first real hope of escape since NedÔÇÖs death, offered by the least likely rescuer imaginable. Whether Dontos can actually deliver on a promise made by a disgraced, frightened man is very much an open question, but for Sansa, starved of any exit at all, even a fragile one is worth the risk of trusting him.
