A Clash of Kings ÔÇö Arya V
The captives are marched to Harrenhal; when Lommy Greenhands cannot walk, Raff the Sweetling answers his plea for carrying with a spear.
The chapter retold
The captives from YorenÔÇÖs shattered column are marched to Harrenhal under Lannister guard, and the journey costs its first life almost immediately: Lommy Greenhands, wounded and unable to walk, begs to be carried. Raff the Sweetling answers the plea with a spear through the throat instead ÔÇö carrying him, he says, with black humor that tells you everything about the men now holding AryaÔÇÖs fate.
ItÔÇÖs a brutal, economical chapter that establishes the tone of HarrenhalÔÇÖs Lannister garrison before Arya ever sets foot inside the castle proper ÔÇö casual, bored cruelty as the house style. LommyÔÇÖs death also strips away one more piece of the group Arya fled KingÔÇÖs Landing with, narrowing her allies down to almost no one as the column nears the most infamous castle in the riverlands.
