In the House of the Undying, Daenerys is shown three visions that read like riddles and feel like prophecy ÔÇö three fires, three mounts, three treasons ÔÇö images of a ruined throne room, a wolf and a lion feasting, a blue-eyed king at Winterfell, none of them explained, all of them clearly important. The warlocks who lured her here reveal their true purpose only once sheÔÇÖs deep inside: they mean to feed on her power, or trap her forever among the visions, and their hospitality curdles into an ambush.
Drogon answers where nothing else could ÔÇö turning on the warlocks with dragonfire and burning the House of the UndyingÔÇÖs masters in their own hall, freeing his mother from a trap built specifically for someone without a dragon. ItÔÇÖs the bookÔÇÖs clearest statement of what DaenerysÔÇÖs children are actually worth beyond spectacle: not just symbols of Targaryen return, but weapons that make her, for the first time since DrogoÔÇÖs death, someone who cannot simply be captured by whoever is cleverest in the room. The visions she carries out with her ÔÇö unexplained, unresolved ÔÇö will shadow the rest of her story for books to come.
