She sets a course east rather than the direct route south toward Westeros, choosing the long way home over the fast one, aware that arriving unprepared would be its own kind of defeat.

It’s a quiet, deliberate chapter of consolidation after the House of the Undying’s chaos — Daenerys weighing patience against urgency and choosing patience, a discipline that will define much of her arc going forward. The ships are small, but they’re real, tangible progress after a stretch of the book that offered her mostly visions and near-disasters.
