Cersei visits Margaery in her cell beneath the Great Sept, ostensibly bearing charity and comfort, actually savoring every second of her rival's imprisonment with a thin veneer of politeness stretched over open gloating. Meanwhile, Osney Kettleblack is dispatched to confess a fabricated adultery with Margaery to the High Sparrow ÔÇö a lie meant to seal the queen's guilt beyond doubt. But the High Sparrow, unassuming and barefoot as he is, proves to have sharper eyes for a false confession than any of the actual septons Cersei is used to manipulating.
The chapter is where Cersei's plan first starts to show hairline cracks under its own weight ÔÇö Osney's confession is meant to be the final nail, but the High Sparrow's scrutiny (patient, humble, genuinely devout in a way Cersei has no framework for understanding, let alone countering) suggests he is investigating rather than simply accepting convenient testimony. Cersei's cell visit to gloat, meanwhile, reads as exactly the kind of unnecessary risk-taking that will keep compounding against her ÔÇö a woman so certain of her own victory that she cannot resist savoring it before it's actually secure.
