The chapter retold
WinterfellÔÇÖs nights turn openly dangerous: dead Bolton men start turning up each morning, throats cut or worse, while snow chokes the yards and makes every watch miserable and half-blind. Theon walks the walls doing the only job left to him, and AbelÔÇÖs washerwomen keep finding him, their questions sharper now, their patience for his flinching answers running visibly thin ÔÇö they need a working plan, and a broken manÔÇÖs usefulness has limits.
The chapter escalates the murder mystery running underneath WinterfellÔÇÖs occupation without resolving it, letting suspicion do the work of unsettling the Bolton garrison from within ÔÇö nobody trusts anyone, which is exactly the condition a rescue plot needs to succeed. TheonÔÇÖs arc tightens here into something closer to suspense than tragedy: the reader is asked to root for a man barely capable of rooting for himself, watching him circle the edge of remembering who he used to be while snow and murder close in around the castle.
