Alone on the Dothraki sea, half-starved and fever-sick from days spent walking back after Drogon finally tired and set down on a distant hilltop, Daenerys makes her slow way through the grass reassembling, piece by piece, exactly who she is ÔÇö not a wife, not a diplomat, not a queen negotiating away her own instincts, but blood of the dragon, fire and blood, the girl who walked into a pyre and walked out a legend. Khal JhaqoÔÇÖs outriders find her exactly as that identity reasserts itself.

The chapter functions as a kind of wilderness reckoning, stripping away every compromise Meereen forced on her until only the essential Daenerys is left standing in the grass, and itÔÇÖs a deliberately ambiguous note to end her bookÔÇÖs arc on ÔÇö found by Dothraki riders who could easily be an old nightmare returning or, just as easily, the beginning of the khalasar she always half-promised herself sheÔÇÖd command outright. Either way, the queen who flew away from her throne walks back toward her own story reduced to nothing but the truest thing about her.
