Jeyne Westerling

A gentle daughter of a small westerlands house who nursed a wounded young king at the Crag ÔÇö and became his queen at the cost of a sworn marriage pact. This is the books' telling; the show gave Robb's heart to Talisa of Volantis instead.

A soul of House Stark, born at The Crag.

The fuller tale

How it ends for them

The chronicle records no death for this soul ÔÇö they are living when the tale leaves them, or their ending is a page the maesters have yet to turn.

Where the page and the screen part

Jeyne exists only in the books; the show replaced her wholesale with Talisa of Volantis, an invented battlefield healer with a foreign backstory, an on-screen courtship and a place at the Red Wedding ÔÇö everything Jeyne is not. The swap changes the meaning of Robb's fall: Talisa makes it a love story punished, while Jeyne makes it an honor story punished ÔÇö one wounded night, and a marriage made from duty to the girl rather than passion. Readers also inherit a puzzle the show never had: the books' physical descriptions of Jeyne shift oddly between volumes, which fueled years of theories about substituted queens and hidden pregnancies that the narrative has, so far, declined to confirm.

Her survival is the other structural difference. Talisa's story ends at the Twins; Jeyne's simply stops ÔÇö pardoned, guarded, grieving, and pointedly still alive in the published books, a loose thread the story keeps within reach. Whatever the remaining volumes intend for the Westerlings, the show decided the question was not worth carrying, and folded the entire family out of existence.
