Yohn Royce
Bronze Yohn, Lord of Runestone, the most powerful of the Vale lords: a big, blunt, honorable old warrior who wears ancient bronze armor graven with runes.
A soul born at Runestone.
The fuller tale
How it ends for them
The chronicle records no death for this soul ÔÇö they are living when the tale leaves them, or their ending is a page the maesters have yet to turn.
Their chapters, book by book
Where the page and the screen part
Show and book Royce are the same man at different altitudes. The show makes him SansaÔÇÖs gruff marshal and gives him the on-screen victories; the books make him the great lord of the ValeÔÇÖs opposition, whose Lords Declarant storyline ÔÇö six proud banners against one smiling upstart ÔÇö is among the threads the adaptation cut entirely. The books also draw the family lines the show leaves unspoken: the doomed ranger of the sagaÔÇÖs first page is Bronze YohnÔÇÖs own son, which means the storyÔÇÖs very first casualty was a Royce of Runestone, and his father never learns how it happened.
Their journey
Where the two tellings send them to the same place the road runs whole; where they part, the screen keeps the left and the books the right.
