S2┬ÀE7 ÔÇö A Man Without Honor
The hour retold
The title is Jaime LannisterÔÇÖs self-assessment, delivered from a stockade after he has murdered his own cousin for a half-chance at escape ÔÇö and the hour keeps turning the phrase over like a coin. Honor, in this episode, is mostly the story people tell about the things they were going to do anyway. Theon, humiliated by two missing Stark boys, rides out with hounds and comes back with two small charred bodies to hang from WinterfellÔÇÖs walls ÔÇö better to be cruel than weak, he tells himself, having chosen a third option worse than either. The reveal that the bodies are the millerÔÇÖs boys is withheld; the show lets the audience sit with the worst version, because Theon has to live in it either way.
The captives run the table. Ygritte spends the hour as JonÔÇÖs prisoner in name and his interrogator in practice, needling him about vows, freedom and everything under his cloak, until the ambush closes and the roles reverse ÔÇö you know nothing, Jon Snow, now established as both taunt and diagnosis. In Qarth, Pyat Pree demonstrates the difference between wealth and power by murdering the Thirteen in open council and inviting Dany to the House of the Undying, where her dragons wait. And in the capital, Cersei ÔÇö rattled by her son and her siege ÔÇö gives Sansa the only honest tutorial she will ever offer: love no one but your children. In an episode full of men explaining honor, the queenÔÇÖs cynicism lands as the closest thing to truth on offer.
