Salt Shore sits on the hot southern coast of Dorne, and House Gargalen has held it long enough to be counted among the principality's steadier bannermen. Their red-and-black cockatrice ÔÇö a serpent with a rooster's head, deadly in legend ÔÇö is a fittingly Dornish choice for a house of the salt and the sand.

The Gargalens stood among the lords who answered Sunspear's call through the long quarrel with the Iron Throne, one more thread in the patient net Dorne weaves around its enemies.
