S2┬ÀE5 ÔÇö Regent
The hour retold
An hour about who inherits a war when its king can no longer wear it. Aegon lives ÔÇö barely ÔÇö burned, broken, and drowned in milk of the poppy, and the green council quietly passes the rule not to his mother but to Aemond, handing the realm to the one hand in the family most certain to burn it. Alicent, who spent twenty years building the greens' power, is passed over by her own council for the son she can least restrain, and the show lets the irony sit: the woman who started the war to protect her children is now governed by the child she made.
The realm learns a lesson it can't unlearn. Meleys's severed head is dragged through King's Landing as a trophy meant to reassure, and the smallfolk read it exactly backward ÔÇö proof that dragons die, that the gods on the wing are meat like anything else ÔÇö and begin slipping out of a city they no longer believe is safe. On Driftmark, Corlys is made Rhaenyra's Hand and is met at his own docks by Alyn of Hull, the sailor who pulled him from the waves and is owed more than wages, a quiet reckoning with the blood the Sea Snake never dared to claim. And in the riverlands, Daemon sinks deeper into Harrenhal's dreams while the lords wait for him to wake into the commander they need.
What happens
- Aegon lives ÔÇö barely: burned, broken, and drowned in milk of the poppy. The green council passes the rule to Aemond, not Alicent.
- Meleys's head is dragged through King's Landing as a trophy; the smallfolk see only proof that dragons can die, and begin to slip out of the city.
- On Driftmark, Alyn of Hull ÔÇö the sailor who pulled the Sea Snake from the waves ÔÇö is owed more than wages, and Corlys knows it.
- Rhaenyra sends Rhaena to the Vale with the youngest children and a clutch of dragon eggs; Jace chafes at being an heir kept from the war.
- Daemon's Harrenhal dreams deepen; the riverlords test him, and Willem Blackwood's brutality against the Brackens does his recruiting.
