The fuller tale

The stone bridge where the roseroad crosses the Mander becomes, for a season, the single most important muster point in the war: it is at Bitterbridge that Lord Ormund Hightower gathers the Reach’s great host before marching it north toward the crownlands, the castle’s Caswell lords hosting an army rather than a garrison for as long as the assembly takes.

Bitterbridge’s brief prominence is entirely logistical rather than martial — no battle is fought at the bridge itself, only the long, slow business of turning scattered Reach levies into a single marching column large enough to matter, before that column moves on to the fights at Tumbleton that actually decide anything.
