The fuller tale

Myr is one of the three cities of the Triarchy, the alliance that first fights Daemon Targaryen for control of the Stepstones and later, at Otto Hightower’s invitation, throws its fleet behind the greens against the Velaryon blockade of the Gullet. Myrish captains and Myrish coin are woven through both halves of that story — the earlier Stepstones war that made Daemon’s reputation, and the later intervention that costs the Triarchy dearly when its combined fleet is savaged in the Gullet’s waters, thousands of Myrish sailors among the dead.

The disaster at the Gullet does not sit quietly at home — Myrish and Tyroshi families, having lost the bulk of their sailors while Lysene ships were held conspicuously back from the worst of the fighting, accuse the Triarchy’s Lyseni admiral of spending everyone else’s lives to spare his own city’s fleet, a grievance that festers into open conflict between the Triarchy’s partners once the Dance itself is over.
