The Mystery Knight — Dunk III
Whitewalls, the Milkhouse: Lord Butterwell weds a Frey of the Crossing, and every lord who ever drank to the black dragon is under one marble roof. The wedding gift that stops the hall: a dragon's egg, promised to the tourney's champion.
The chapter retold
Whitewalls — the Milkhouse, Lord Butterwell's gleaming marble seat above the Gods Eye — reveals itself as a very particular gathering. Butterwell weds a Frey of the Crossing, and under one roof sits nearly every lord who ever raised a cup to the black dragon's memory. The chapter's showpiece is the wedding gift that silences the hall: a dragon's egg, promised as the prize to the tourney's champion, an offering so pointed that its mere presence is half a treason. Dunk, counting the faces, finally grasps that he is standing in the middle of Redgrass Field's losing side, reassembled and waiting.
This movement: The Road to the Wedding
- Gibbets by Stoney Sept: Bloodraven's justice hangs where all can see it, and rumor says the black dragon stirs across the sea.
- Dunk and Egg fall in with lords bound for Lord Butterwell's wedding at Whitewalls — Gormon Peake, Alyn Cockshaw, and the golden, laughing Ser John the Fiddler.
- The Milkhouse gleams over the Gods Eye, packed with every lord who ever drank to Daemon Blackfyre's memory.
- A dragon's egg is promised to the tourney champion, and the Fiddler tells Dunk of dreams: a dragon hatching at Whitewalls, and Dunk in a white cloak.
