Pyke is a castle of black stone strung across storm-battered sea-stacks by rope bridges that would unsettle a mainland lord on his best day, seat of House Greyjoy and their old creed that a ship earns more honor than a plow. Dagon Greyjoy currently tests exactly how far that creed can be indulged under a crown determined to keep its peace — his longships reave the sunset coasts from Lannisport to Seagard while the rest of the Seven Kingdoms enjoys the long, comfortable calm Daeron II’s reign is remembered for, a discrepancy the Iron Throne has noticed and not yet found convenient to correct.
