The books leave him behind earlier and for good: the Brotherhood deposits him at a riverlands inn as a bakerÔÇÖs helper, and he exits AryaÔÇÖs story with his wolf-shaped bread, resurfacing only when BrienneÔÇÖs travels bring her to the crossroads and a proud young baker whose work has gotten good. The show, fonder of him than the plot strictly required, engineers two reunions ÔÇö the loaf for Brienne, and the season-seven supper where his news redirects Arya north ÔÇö and grants him what the books have not yet confirmed: survival all the way to the storyÔÇÖs end, feeding people at the same crossroads while the armies pass.
