Lord Walder's patient heir, an old man who had waited sixty years for the Twins, took a wound at Oxcross and died of it three days later in the west ÔÇö proving, his father grumbled, that waiting on Freys kills even Freys.
He dies in A Clash of Kings of wounds taken at the battle of Oxcross, lingering three days in the west before slipping away ÔÇö the heir of the Twins, dead a continent from the bridge he waited sixty years to inherit. His fatherÔÇÖs recorded reaction is pure Walder Frey: less grief than vexation, a grumble that the boy spent a lifetime waiting for him to die and then had the effrontery to go first. His death hands the heirship down a queue of grandsons ÔÇö Ryman, Edwyn, Black Walder ÔÇö each a measurable step down in decency, with consequences the riverlands would soon learn to count. Book only; the show never names him.

Where the page and the screen part
Stevron never appears in the show, which needed only one old Frey and kept the worst one. His absence flattens a book irony the adaptation had no room for: the succession at the Twins, that endless queue of scheming heirs, exists because the decent man at its head died waiting ÔÇö and every Frey behind him was worse than the last.
